Starting, pausing, duplicating

Starting a campaign, pausing it safely, duplicating one, and what each control actually does to people mid-sequence.

A campaign is a draft until you press Start. After that it runs on its own, but the controls behave in ways worth knowing before you use them.

#Starting

  1. 1

    Check the pre-flight card.

  2. 2

    Click Start.

  3. 3

Resolve the overlap warning if it appears.

Cancel, continue without those contacts, or move them across.

  4. 4

Watch the first step go out.

Step 1 sends on enrolment, so you see results immediately.

#Pausing

Pause stops anything still queued within seconds. Contacts stay where they are in the sequence and resume from there.

A paused campaign still holds its audience

Pausing does not free contacts for another campaign, they are released only after 14 days paused. Pausing one campaign to run another at the same people does not work. See One campaign per contact.

#Duplicating

Duplicate copies all steps, delays, subject lines and content into a new campaign, opened ready to edit.

A duplicate never inherits an audience

It starts as a draft with nobody in it, deliberately, so duplicating a live campaign cannot accidentally email the same people twice.

#What each control does

ControlEffect on people mid-sequence
PauseFrozen where they are. Nothing queued goes out
ResumeContinue from their current step
DuplicateNothing, the copy has no audience
DeleteThe campaign and its enrolments are gone
Edit a future stepThey receive the updated version when they reach it

#After it has started

Watch the Analytics tab. The number to check first is not the open rate, it is whether anything bounced, because that is what leads to a pause.
