Linked accounts

Connecting related contacts, couples, co-buyers, referral sources, and controlling what they can see of each other.

Linked accounts record how people are related: a married couple buying together, a parent co-signing, the client who referred someone. The link is on the contact, so the context is there when you open them.

#Linking two contacts

  1. 1

Open a contact and go to Linked Accounts.

  2. 2

Click Link Account and search by name, email or phone.

  3. 3

    Choose the relationship type.

  4. 4

    Set what they share.

    Three separate switches, see below.

  5. 5

    Save.

#What they share

Three switches control what linked contacts see of each other on their client portals:

SwitchEffect
Share FavoritesEach can see the homes the other saved
Share Saved SearchesThey share the same searches and alerts
Share NotesNotes written for one are visible to the other
Think before sharing notes

A couple sharing favourites is helpful, they are shopping together. Sharing notes means anything you record about one person is readable by the other. For a couple that is usually fine; for a referral source or a business partner it is usually not.

All three can be changed later by editing the relationship. You do not have to unlink and start again.

#Both people are told

When you link two contacts, both receive an in-app notification naming the other person and the relationship, and you get a confirmation. Removing a link notifies both as well.

So link deliberately

A link is not a private annotation, the people involved find out. That is right for a couple and awkward if you linked the wrong record.

#History

The tab shows current links and previously linked contacts who have since been unlinked, so the record survives the relationship. Re-linking two people is recognised as a reactivation.

#Why bother

  • Co-buyer transactions show everyone involved.
  • Referral networks become visible, you can see who sends you business.
  • You never email one half of a couple about a home the other already rejected.
