Auto-pause and lockouts

Two hard bounces pause a campaign. Repeats within 30 days escalate to an account-wide sending lockout. The ladder, and how to get out of it.

A wave of bounces is the fastest way to damage a sending reputation, and it usually means a list problem rather than a content problem. EasyDigz stops the campaign before the damage is done.

#Campaign level

Two hard bounces on a single campaign pause that campaign immediately. It gets an amber Auto-paused badge, distinct from a pause you set yourself, and hovering it shows the reason.

#Account level

If halts keep happening within 30 days, protection escalates, because a repeat means the first halt was not acted on.

A lockout stops automated marketing. Manual email from the composer keeps working throughout, so an in-flight transaction is never blocked by it.

#Restarting an auto-paused campaign

  1. 1

Open Email Health → Bad addresses.

    In the Drip Campaign Builder.

  2. 2

Remove or suppress the invalid addresses.

This is the actual fix. Restarting without it produces the same bounces and the next rung of the ladder.

  3. 3

    Click Resume on the campaign.

  4. 4

Tick the acknowledgement in the Confirm list is cleaned dialog.

The campaign does not restart until you confirm.

Why it asks you to confirm

The gate is there because the tempting move, resume and hope, is what escalates you. Ticking the box is a deliberate moment to check you actually fixed something.

#Avoiding it

  • Do not email lists you bought or scraped. This is the single biggest cause.
  • Import from a source where the addresses were given to you.
  • Watch the bounce number on the Email Health widget, amber is a warning worth acting on.
  • Do not restart a bounced campaign against the same unmodified audience.
