Every option lets you send from your own domain. They differ in what happens when someone replies, which matters more than it sounds, because a reply is the point of the email.
#Where your replies go
| Your setup | Sending | Replies | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| You already use this address | Yes | Keep arriving in the mailbox you already have | You already get email at this address, for example through Google Workspace or Outlook |
| Forwarding (default for new addresses) | Yes | Forwarded to the email address on your profile, such as your Gmail | You are setting this address up for the first time |
| Send-only (forwarding removed) | Yes | Go nowhere | Only when replies genuinely do not matter |
Someone replying to your campaign gets a delivery failure, or nothing at all. For most agents that is the worst possible outcome, a warm reply is exactly what you were hoping for. Pick one of the other two unless you have a specific reason.
#What you will be asked
In Tenant Settings → Email Domain, Step 1 asks two things on one screen:
- 1
The address you will send from.
An alias plus your domain, for example [email protected]. The domain is filled in from your connected Custom Domain, and the alias is anything you like before the @, such as support, hello, info or team.
- 2
Whether you already use this email for your business.
| Your answer | What happens |
|---|---|
| Yes, I already use it | Forwarding stays off. Replies keep landing in your existing mailbox |
| No, setting it up for the first time | Forwarding to your inbox is switched on. Before you continue, the screen shows the address you will send from and where replies will land. You can remove forwarding here if you do not want it |
Click Configure domain to save both answers together. If your Custom Domain is not connected yet, you are asked to add it first.
If you are setting the address up for the first time, forwarding is switched on for you rather than leaving you send-only by accident. Removing forwarding is always your explicit choice, never something that happens by accident.
#How to choose
- 1
Do you already get email at this domain?
If yes → answer yes, keep using that mailbox. Done.
- 2
If no, keep forwarding on.
Replies go to the email address on your profile, so make sure that is the inbox you check every day, such as your Gmail or Outlook.
- 3
Only remove forwarding if you have a deliberate reason.
For example, an address that genuinely should not be replied to.
#Changing your mind later
You can change this from Tenant Settings → Email Domain. Step 2 of setup only lists the DNS records your choice actually needs. If a change needs new records, they appear there, and Email status at the top of the page re-checks itself every minute and turns to Verified on its own once they are live. Use the refresh button beside it to check straight away.
Sending uses an MX record on your sending subdomain, for example mail.yourbrand.com. This is the Mail From record, where bounce reports come back. Forwarding uses an MX record on your root domain, for example yourbrand.com, which is what passes replies on to your inbox. If you already use the address, your existing mailbox's MX records stay exactly as they are.
